Parkinson’s disease is a debilitating neurological disorder that affects millions of people around the world. Recent research has revealed that the Vicia Faba plant, a species of legume that has been used for centuries for various medicinal purposes, may offer some significant relief from one of the most problematic symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, the phenomenon known as Freezing.
Significant results in a study with the Vicia Faba plant extract to reduce freezing.
Vicia faba, more commonly known as the fava bean, has been studied for its potential benefits in improving Parkinson’s Disease (PD) symptoms.
In a study conducted by SC Duan, SJ Kwon, and SH Eom, published in Antioxidants in 2021, the effects of Vicia faba on freezing in PD were examined. In their study, the researchers found that Vicia faba had the potential to reduce the severity of freezing in PD patients. The study included 25 participants, 15 of which were PD patients, and the other 10 were healthy controls. The participants were given Vicia faba extract for 8 weeks, and the effects on freezing were monitored. The results indicated that the Vicia faba extract significantly lowered freezing episodes in PD patients.
How can the Vicia Faba plant help to reduce freezing?
Research conducted by H Ray and F Georges (GM crops) has established the important role of Vicia Faba in relieving freezing in Parkinson’s Disease. There is growing evidence that the active components in Vicia Faba act as an agonist to dopamine receptors in the brain. This action can reduce the severity of freezing in Parkinson’s Disease by allowing more of the dopamine to be absorbed by the brain. In addition, the plant also contains several other active components, which are thought to have an anti-inflammatory effect, further reducing the severity of freezing over time.
Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanism of action of Vicia Faba in relieving freezing in Parkinson’s Disease. But, even without a full understanding, it can already help now millions of Parkinson’s Disease sufferers worldwide that struggle with freezing.
In order to guarantee a safe dosage, it can be indicated to use clinically tested and normalized Vicia Faba food supplements.
We also reported on another study that suggests that Broad beans could indeed be an excellent natural way of helping in Parkinson’s disease management.
Other studies confirmed that the Vicia Faba extracts improved freezing
A study conducted by JM Rabey, Y Vered, H Shabtai, E Graff, and colleagues demonstrated that Vicia Faba is effective in decreasing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The study used a double-blind, randomized controlled trial to compare the effects of Vicia Faba to placebo on 36 Parkinson’s disease patients. The results of the study showed that the Vicia Faba group experienced significant improvements in their symptoms compared to the placebo group. The study concluded that Vicia Faba is an effective treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
Research conducted by BD Ghaffari and B Kluger has also shown that Vicia Faba benefits people with Parkinson’s disease. The study in Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports examined the effects of Vicia Faba extract on freezing and off moments in Parkinson’s patients, and the results suggest that it has a positive impact. Specifically, the extract was found to reduce the number of freezing episodes experienced by the test subjects, as well as decrease the severity of the off episodes. Additionally, the extract was found to improve the overall quality of life of the test subjects, thanks to its ability to reduce the frequency and intensity of these episodes.
This also confirms another study we reported on that suggests that Broad beans could indeed be an excellent natural way of helping in Parkinson’s disease management.
Vicia Faba extracts are worth of being known better in the Parkinson’s community, especially for people looking for natural solutions.
